Conveniently one of the closest climbing areas. the Mississippi Palisades State Park is located along the Mississippi River in Northwestern Illinois The park is located in a geological division known as the "Driftless Area" This unglaciated topography contains steep limestone bluffs dissected by wooded ravines The area overlooks the Mississippi River, hillside prairies and wooded uplands, a true haven for those who seek outdoor enjoyment

Yes. rock does exist here, miles of it in fact The dense sandstone here is a few hundred million years old The features. texture and density of it vary from one area to the next Overall, the cliffs offer excellent face, arete, and dihedral climbing Adding to the beauty of the stone are the forested surroundings known as the Shawnee National Forest which decorate every Southern Illinois climbing area

Wild Iowa
This area is mainly for our advanced rock climbers The rock is mostly limestone, the climbing types are sport crag, bouldering, face and overhang There is a weeks worth of climbing in Wild Iowa, so we will have plenty to do The sight of the limestone rocks brimming above the plump eastern Iowa corn harvest is a must see.
